College Headlines the Hot topic on the NFL Pre game Show

There were a number of topics that were of interest on the network pre game shows this pas weekend. Let’s start with the topic of college football head coach openings:

Fox NFL Sunday feature of Grumpy old Coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer talking about Les Miles the LSU coach who is rumored to be the front runner for the opening at Michigan. Johnson and Switzer disagree on which is the better job, LSU or Michigan.

Johnson: “LSU is a better job than Michigan.”

Switzer: “Yes, talent wise but you can win more games consistently at Michigan versus LSU.”

Johnson with the best line speaking about the lack of black head coaches in college:
“There are only six black coaches in all of the 119 schools [in Division I-A]. I think they should have the Dan Rooney rule just like in the NFL. [Steelers coach] Mike Tomlin was a coordinator for one year then [Rooney] hires him to be the head coach and look at the success they are having. A team needs to not just interview some black coaches but have a concentrated effort to go out and find the best black coach out there, whether it be a head coach or a coordinator on somebody’s staff. Look at [Mississippi State head coach] Sylvester Croom. With the fantastic job he did there, he should be the SEC coach of the year.”

On CBS NFL Today the shows “Insider,” Charlie Casserly thinks Ravens offensive coordinator could be a hot hire on the college head coaching scene: University of Mississippi is interested in talking to Ravens assistant coach Rick Neuheisel. There could be more looking at Rick if he is interested.”

The oddest comments came from NBC Football Night in America’s Tiki Barber who criticized the leadership skills in the off season his former Giants teammate quaterback Eli Manning. Barber commented on those same skills on the NBC show: "What matters for the New York Giants right now is not how he played today because everybody's entitled to a bad day every now and then. Going forward is what matters. They have a tough game next week against Chicago. Eli's leadership ability and his determination is going to be judged how he does going forward the rest of this season."

Funniest line of the week goes to ESPN’s Analyst Mike Ditka (laughing and sporting an old leather Chicago Bears helmet with no facemask): "The best team of all-time -- this is true, and I played against them and I know – the 1926 Frankfurt Yellow Jackets."
